Roleplaying Games

Amongst my varied interests lies one that seemed to be rooted in me with no way to escape.  I grew up in a family with two older brothers who were very much in to playing table top roleplaying games (i.e. D&D) and who seemed interested in getting their younger siblings to play as well.  Initially I didn't have much interest in joining them -- not necessarily because I thought they were geeks -- because I had my own set of interests at that young age.  Case in point, my second-oldest brother started trying to indoctrinate me into the gaming world when I was but 8 or 9 years old.  I wouldn't say that is too young -- he himself started at age 7 if I recall correctly -- I just didn't have interest at that age.

Years passed and while he was away serving a mission I decided to join my oldest brother in gaming.  I was 14 at the time.  He started me out on a new system he was trying called GURPS.  Perhaps because I was older and had a better attention span, perhaps because I had a lot of the same interests at that point as my oldest brother, I took to the concept and joined him as a regular player.

Here we stand more than 12 years later and I continue to play semi-regularly.  I say semi-regularly because although I attempt to play every other week (whereas I started out playing every week), I am frequently unable to play because of other things that come up like family, side work, etc.  At any rate, we continue to play GURPS and at least on my part am fairly resistant to any other systems that come up.

Traditionally in the past I have played somewhat basic characters with lack of complexity.  My first several characters were poorly skilled, poorly created, and not very good fits to the campaign settings in general.  I was an inexperienced gamer and didn't try too hard at the "role" part of roleplaying.  I seemed to typecast my characters in a certain mold and didn't venture from it.  Even so, in more recent years I have had some fairly successful and enjoyable characters to play, some in the typecast, though the more enjoyable ones have been when I ventured out of my comfort zone and started playing characters with depth.

My favorite characters that I've played (or am currently playing) are:
